I've never been to coupleS therapy, what is it like?

Starting something new can be scary and beginning couples therapy is no different. While we cannot take the nervous feeling out of taking such an important and helpful step in your relationship, we can assure you will be welcomed without judgment and by someone who is not "taking sides."  You will each have the opportunity to talk about the challenges and strengths of your relationship. Your therapist will ask you questions to get to know each of you better as well as your relational dynamics. You will also have the opportunity to ask your therapist questions as you begin to build trust for the journey ahead.

What happens in the first session?

The goal of the first session is for you to meet your therapist and for him/her learn about you, your history, and your current struggles in order to begin the healing journey. Most people feel anxious during the first session, so rest assured we are here to help you take the first steps. You will each have the opportunity to talk about what has been going on in your relationship. Your therapist will ask questions to better understand you each individually and your relational dynamic. You will then begin, together with your therapist, building a road toward healing.

isn't Couples Therapy a last resort?

Counseling can certainly be a relationship-saving last resort for couples, but more often counseling is a way to work through snags in intimacy and communication that arise in the course of a relationship. If there are areas in your relationship in which you would like to see improvement, counseling could probably benefit you.

DOes it really work?

Counseling has helped save and better uncountable relationships. We wholeheartedly believe it “works” and have research to back us up. The main thing to remember about couples therapy, however, is that it is not magic. It will take honesty and willingness from both partners in order to see growth and change. When you have this combination, transformational things can happen.

How much does it cost?

Our staff at Mansio would be glad to discuss fees, duration, and frequency of therapy that may best suit your situation. Know that this is one of the best investments that you can make.
